Wow! I don't know where to begin. They should have wrecked a dozen times in the last 20 laps or so. It seemed like after the caution on lap 140 it was no-holds-barred racing. Then the green-white-checkered had me wondering what the...?
Jeff Gordon had his first top-5 car in quite some time but got moved out of the way by Carl Edwards. Matt Kenseth pushes Edwards to the outside line to pass the leader, Kyle Busch. The problem... Kenseth didn't follow and Edwards was done.
Other strong contenders through the race were Earnhardt, Martin and Jimmie Johnson. Earnhardt simple got shoved out of line and no one wanted to work with him, but finished 8th (unofficially). Mark Martin was strong all day but wasn't in the right place to make something happen. He finished 10th (unofficially). Johnson gets caught up in the semi-big one with three to go. The official big one ended the green-white-checkered finish.
Lucky finishers (finish pos): #2 - Kurt Busch (4th) - Only lucky cause he finished 4th with a backup car that had no practice laps on it. #6 - David Ragan (5th) - Soon he will be removed from this list. He's running better every week and plenty of luck on his side. #28 - Travis Kvapil (11th) - Has been running well, staying within the top-25 in driver points. Not bad for a team without a full-time sponsor. #77 - Sam Hornish Jr (13th) - Managed to miss all the wrecks and stay alive for his best finish of the year. #55 - Michael Waltrip (14th) - Just because he doesn't seem to run well anywhere but plate tracks #45 - Terry Labonte (17th) - Give him some credit. First time in a COT car on a plate track.
Once the results are final and the possible fines and penalties are handed down for the #1 DEI Chevy pre-race inspection failure, I will finalize all stats and post the prize winners.

Some more silly season news to announce. Mark Martin and Hendrick Motorsports made it official this weekend with the announcement of Martin taking over the wheel in the #5 Chevy. He will run a full season in 2009 and a 26-race partial season in 2010 with the second driver still to be determined.
Also announced this weekend, Tony Stewart landed Office Depot as his sponsor for 2009, further proving his departure from Joe Gibbs Racing to be the real deal. Stewart will buy into Haas CNC Racing. It has been noted that an official announcement will be made at the Brickyard in three weeks. Also rumored to be making his way to the Haas CNC / Stewart team is Ryan Newman. No word if the second driver will be included in the announcement.

Silly season is in full swing now. Aric Amirola has been named the full-time driver of the #8 DEI Chevy for 2009. Mark Martin is rumored to be heading for the #5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy as a possible 'one more try for a Championship' run.
Also, news this morning included the shutdown of the #40 Chip Ganassi Racing Dodge team, driven by Dario Franchitti, effective this weekend. CGR said lack of sponsorship was the main reason for ceasing operations. Franchitti may finish out the racing season in the #40 Nationwide Series ride also owned by CGR.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE! After the Daytona race, all pools will start over with new segments - with the exception of the Pick Pool. If you haven't already done so, get your account updated today so you don't miss out on all the fun or email me directly with your pool selections for the upcoming segments.
If you are new to the site, simply click on the Registration link at the top of the page and setup your new account today!
Also, a minor change will be made to how the Bracket Pool works. To help get more participation and to allow extra time for making selections, starting with the next segment the bracket will be based on the driver standings instead of qualifying results. Each week, the top-16 drivers (on the entry list) in points will be pitted against each other. From each pairing, you will choose who moves on until you get a final weekly winner. The selection window will open when the entry list is made available (generally on Tuesdays).
